Why Everything Feels Heavier These Days
What world are we living in lately?
I don’t know about you, but I get this thought a million times a day.
Every day, there’s a new tragedy
in a home, in a country, in nature. EVERYWHERE.
It’s not like the world was perfect before. But it didn’t make us question our existence every single day.
Maybe the world hasn’t changed as much as we think.
Maybe it’s the way the internet amplifies every emotion, every story, every outrage, that makes it feel heavier.
I truly believe the internet has made the world better. But I also believe it should have come with its own limitations.
Because we’re stuck in loops that start with fascination… and end with exhaustion.
1. The Creator Lifestyle Loop
A recent report says nearly 80% of youth in tier 2 and 3 cities now identify as creators.
But here’s what almost no one talks about:
We’re not just creating content — the content is slowly creating us.
The algorithm doesn’t only show us what we like. It teaches us what to want.
Travel. Aesthetic mornings. Independence. Solo trips. Luxury stays.
A life that looks full, even if it isn’t actually lived.
Everyone wants to be that person — hopping on trends, flying to the next destination, attending that concert, buying that designer outfit.
But it comes with hidden costs:
mindless consumerism
financial pressure
environmental strain
algorithm-driven identity
burnout masked as “hustle”
We think we’re shaping our lives through content. But somewhere, it’s the content shaping our lives.
2. Extravagant Weddings, Hollow Marriages
Instagram reels have turned weddings into week-long productions.
One emotional groom clip, and suddenly my feed becomes a parade of ten more — all curated, all cinematic.
Decor teams, wardrobe planners, drone shots, outfit changes — everything is orchestrated to perfection.
But what doesn’t make it to the reels is the reality behind it:
months of emotional labour
intense family pressure
expectations layered between two households
expenses that stretch beyond comfort
And despite all this glamour, marriages today feel more fragile than ever.
Internet culture glorifies independence, freedom, and choice all necessary and valid.
But somewhere along the way, the quieter virtues patience, compromise, responsibility, respect stopped being “cool enough” to talk about.
We’ve perfected weddings. But we’ve forgotten how to build marriages.
3. Over-Dependency on Government & Under-Responsibility as Citizens
When it comes to civic sense, Indians have always struggled hygiene, waste, public behaviour, awareness.
Yet online, everyone has something to say about how the government is failing us.
Pollution. Women’s safety. Jobs. Education. Cleanliness.
But here’s a question we avoid:
What are we doing as citizens?
Out of 1.3 billion people, maybe 15–25% genuinely make an effort.
But what about the rest?
Look at weddings again
the waste, the leftover food, single-use decor, alcohol bottles, plastic.
Look at travel
mountains crowded with tourists who come only because the internet told them to, streams choked with wrappers, forests cut down to build stays for “content”.
Yes, the government must clean.
But people must stop littering too.
Responsibility is never one-sided.
The World Isn’t Worse — The Pace Is
After thinking about all of this, I’ve realised something important:
The world isn’t collapsing. We’re just living at a pace our minds weren’t designed for.
The internet has made everything louder
emotions, expectations, dreams, opinions, lifestyles.
We’re overwhelmed not because life is harder,
but because we are consuming 100 lives a day
and comparing them to our one.
The solution isn’t to blame the internet, creators, weddings, or the government.
It’s to rethink how we engage with all of them.
To consume slower.
To choose intentionally.
To live more offline than on display.
To rebuild the muscle of patience, responsibility, and restraint.
To live in a way that feels full, not just looks full.
The world may not change overnight.
But the way we move through it absolutely can.
And maybe that’s enough to make things feel lighter again.
See you soon :)
